BYOD - Bring Your Own Device

Moving back into the classroom will result in a number of protective procedures outlined by Alberta
Education. Due to the nature of learning for the foreseeable future and to limit the possible spread of
illness, we recommend each student have a personal, robust devices. However, as a school, we do not
have the capacity to supply 1-to-1 computing to students. We are asking those parents, who are able, to
provide a Chromebook for the year. Those families who are unable to supply one, we will do our best to
provide one from the school.
For a device, we recommend a Chromebook. They are relatively inexpensive and work seamlessly with
the Google environment used by all St. Albert Public Schools. Purchasing a new Chromebook gives
you a device that should last through to the conclusion of High School. Mac/Windows laptops are
acceptable but are expensive and have increased security risks. Tablets are not robust enough for our
educational purposes.
There are a number of options and brands available for Chromebooks such as Acer, Asus, and Lenovo to
name a few.
