Lorne Akins was a well-loved farmer, community builder and St. Albert pioneer whose holdings ran from the Sturgeon River back to the northern edge of the modern-day school property. Mr. Akins was extremely well respected for his hard work, his warm, caring qualities and his commendable community involvement. He excelled at wrestling, hockey and baseball and helped establish a local community league and hall. He also served as a town councillor. We are sure that he would be very proud to see his namesake school with its atrium, natural light, advanced technology and fully-modernized labs.
